Spring is near and to get ready at our site grew our own mini gardens of grass! Other classes have started their own plants by using the flower seeds from the packet but I think grass grows a lot quicker. We planted our mini gardens a few weeks ago, set them in the kitchen window and now have plenty of grass toppling out of the top, within one week we saw roots forming in the bottom which the children were excited to see how quickly they started to grow! To be honest, I was a little surprised myself because we are in Oregon which we do see rain on a daily basis and not much sun but the gardens continued to do well even with little or no natural light. We used plain grass seed nothing too fancy just the cheap stuff. My company bought a bulk bag and sent out seeds to all the sites but if you don’t want to by the seeds in bulk (which usually is the only way possible) then check out your local feed store, nursery, or craft store sometimes they will see it to you but the cup size. Below are what you need to get your own mini gardens started in your homes!
Supplies:
1 Clear plastic cup or mason jar
1 Cup potting soil
2 Tablespoons grass seed or wheat grass seed
Directions:
1. Fill cup or jar halfway with soil
2. Sprinkle 1 Tablespoon of seeds and spread around with a finger to evenly distribute
3. Fill up rest of cup or jar close to the top
4. Sprinkle remaining 1 Tablespoon with of seeds on top. Spread around with finger and make sure seeds are completely covered with soil.
5. Water daily

We planted grass one week ago Wednesday. Cali noticed hers was growing on Thursday of this week. What a happy day it was!
We are so doing this in my pre school class. I am making the poster too.
Thanks so much for linking this. Love it.
I love your chart! We will be planting grass this week for the letter Gg.
Kids love this!! I am a former teacher and growing grass is always a hit!
We live in the Portland area, too! Gotta love the Oregon rain!
