SAND IN THE CITY 2009

Sand in the City is a FREE (suggested donation) local event located in the heart of downtown Portland Oregon community Pioneer Courthouse Square! Over two hundred competitors of master sand sculpters compete with 450 tons of sand dumped in the square to create life size sculptures solely out of sand and water. This is the 14th annual year for this summer fun filled event that benefits the local chapter of Kids on the Block Awareness Program!
Below are a list of Awards up for grabs:
- Golden Shovel – 1st Place
- Silver Rake – 2nd Place
- Bronze Bucket – 3rd Place
- Sand Gavel – Judge’s Choice
- Rookie Trowel – Presented to one rookie team
- Sportsmanship Award – Based on teams outreach to other teams during the entire sand season
- Individual Sand Star Pledge Award – For individuals that reach $150 via the Friends Asking Friends website
Spectators can vote for their favorite by purchasing voting tokens, also known as “Sand Dollars”.
Awards are announced on Friday, July 17 at 5:00 PM. The People’s Choice award closes at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 19 and is announced at 3:00 PM from the Main Stage.
