The purpose of Eyeliner: Why wear eyeliner? Eyeliner can make even the smallest eyes appear larger, make them bold and stand out.

Types of Eyeliner:

Traditional Pencil: Pencil eyeliners have been around the longest. They are typically hard and don’t spread very well. They often pull on the eyelid, leading to difficult application. When choosing an eyeliner pencil, look for cream eyeliner to ensure an easier application.Suitable for both top and bottom lashlines. I like Urban Decay 24/7
Eye Crayon: similar to the pencil, usually wider and is commonly used over the lid as a base color.
Eye Kohl: Softer, creamier consistency than traditional pencil makes it easier to blend and smudge. Great for smokey eyes.
Mechanical Twist Pencil: Slightly softer consistency (much like a crayon) than traditional pencil, but may not be as creamy as kohl liner. Easy to use because you don’t need to sharpen it.
Liquid: Liquid eyeliner is a must have if you are looking to create a dramatic, defined look. Has a shiny finish compared to pencils. It may take some practice to learn how to apply liquid eyeliner.May not be suitable for lower lashline because of its consistency. Also comes in felt tip applications (like markers) which make it easier to apply. Normally waterproof and long wearing.
Gel: Also known as cream one of the newer eyeliners on the market. Gel eyeliner is thick in texture and applied with a stiff angled brush for best application. Typically has a matte or semi-matte finish, great for day and night use. Works well on upper and lower lashlines, and even on the waterline. Simply dip an eyeliner brush into the gel eyeliner, scrape off any excess, and apply as close to the upper lashline as possible, working from the inner corners of the eyes outward.Gel eyeliners are great because unlike pencils, there is no pulling on the delicate skin around the eye area.

How to Apply Eyeliner:
A typical way to apply eyeliner is to line the eye where the lashes meet the lid. Start from the inside of the eye where the lashes start (usually about the middle of the lid) twoards the outer corner. Use short strokes to create a thing straight line. You can also line the bottom of the eyes also known as the “water line”.

Additional Tips:

  • White eyeliner is great for the inner waterline to make eyes POP.
  • Always apply eye makeup in this order: eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, lashes. (SEE MY POSTS ON Artificial LASHES {HERE} )
  • Waterproof eyeliner is great for weddings, summer when the temperatures may cause sweating, at weddings and funerals.
  • While colored eyeliner can be fun, approach vibrant hues cautiously. No one should wear red or pink eyeliner, as it can make the eye appear infected.
  • If you have very little lid visible when your eyes are open, you may want to skip eyeliner altogether, or apply your liner in a very, very skinny line.
  • Remember to throw out mascara and eyeliner after 6 months, this will help keep bacteria from building up.
  • Eyeliner doesn’t have to be expensive! Just find what works best for you. I’ve seen eyeliner priced between $2.59 and $40.
