Google has a developers conference every year called Google IO. Google announces new application launches and things to look forward to in the next year all over the web. This year’s conference is generated a lot towards smart phones and the Android in particular. Jeff is going for his school/work but I am tagging along too

Google IO features 80 sessions (mini classes), with more than 5,000 developer attendees, and over 100 demonstrations from developers showcasing their technologies!

Keynotes is the kickstart to the day. Everyone is shoved into one VERY LARGE banquet room to see, hear, and meet the developers and other special guest including CEO speakers for LogiTech,Sony,and Sports Illustrated.

This post was inspiration to a few people asking me where to buy and how to arrange inexpensive wedding flowers. In additon to food, and venue, flowers is the #3 money ditcher for weddings! They are oh so beautiful and no way to get arond paying a ton for beautiful flwoers, but maybe some things I found onine can give you inspiration to cut a little corners with your wedding flowers and save your money for the real important part of the wedding…THE HONEYMOON!

Be unique and either go simple and buy less flowers, OR think outside the box and use other objects as you centerpiece or accent.

Birth Month Flowers

JANUARY: CARNATION
Representing pride, beauty, admiration and gratitude, the carnation’s multilayered, feathery soft petals conceal a hardy core – an appropriate paradox for this first-month-of-the-year flower. Originally from Asia, where they’ve been cultivated for the last 2,000 years, today this winter birth flower is a richly colorful and fragrant gem.

FEBRUARY: IRIS
It should come as no surprise that the iris’s three upright petals symbolize faith, valor and wisdom. With its majestic purple hues and soaring slender stem, this dignified and graceful February birth flower dates back to Ancient Greece, when Iris, the messenger of the gods and the personification of the rainbow (the Greek word for Iris), acted as the link between heaven and earth.

Soy Candle Search

{2 comments}

Posted in: NewsApril 26, 2010

My favorite candle store Illuminations closed COMPLETELY a few months ago, no more in-store or online. They are fully CLOSED as a company
I was really disappointed when I found out because I absolutely love their candles that are soy and essential oil based. But I am learning to cope because I still have a few extras stashed that I bought when they had a sale so I have a few to get me through but NOT forever!

So now I am on the new search for a good soy candle.

Why soy? Well here are a few facts:

  • Soy is a renewable resource (made from soy beans not chemicals), whereas petroleum based candles are not
  • They burn longer and slower
  • Less toxic than paraffin candles
  • burns “clean” and does not produce black soot or smoke

I’m not really interested in the Yankee Candle company, none of their scents really appeal to me and I’m pretty sure they do not carry a soy in any of their candles. Their Autumn/fall scents are nice, but I dont feel like burning those type of scent in the middle of April ya dig?

So I am asking YOU! Help me find a good soy candle. Any recommendations? What is your favorite candle and scent? It is very hard buying candles online because we dont have smell-a-vision so a candle listed as vanilla or pomegranate might smell totally different by the time it get to your house and is not as pleasant as you thought.

So I’m counting on you to help me find the perfect soy candle!

Please comment below and share with us what your favorite candle is…

Decorate Your Easter Eggs

{3 comments}

Posted in: Crafts, Home DecorMarch 30, 2010

The staple of each Easter celebration and deviled egg leftover is the hard boiled decorated Easter Egg!  How do you and your family color Easter Eggs?

In my family we have always used the dollar kits you see at the grocery store that have all that you need to decorate your eggs with various color dyes. My favorite growing up were the shakeable color kits, dont shake too hard or you’ll crack the egg! Also the  glittered ones were a favorite, all little girls love glitter, glam, and sparkle!

Now days there are so many purchasable kits such as Tye Dye, High School Musical, and Writable Crayon kits.

This year I think I am going to try the Rubber Band technique shown below.

Directions:
-Wrap a few rubber bands around an egg before dipping it into the dye. After the egg dries, remove the bands, revealing white stripes. Try placing the rubber bands in different places and using another color for a striped rainbow effect!

Check out my post I put together on how to cook the perfect hard boiled egg {HERE}.
